Terry Wayne Bergin

November 10, 1954 — January 10, 2022

Terry Bergin
Richfield, Utah

Terry Wayne Bergin, 67, passed peacefully from this earthly life the evening of January 10, 2022 at his home in Richfield, after a year-long battle with cancer. Terry was unwilling to give up and fought hard until the end.  He was born November 10, 1954 in Fort Worth, Texas to John Ardell Bergin and Ruth Etoile Stegall.

The family soon moved to Venice, California where Terry spent time on the beach. His dad made him a shoeshine box and Terry would go to the boardwalk and make a little money shining shoes. His 15 minutes of fame occurred while he was at the beach. He was in the audience of the local TV show called Groovy and was chosen to participate in a poster drawing contest, he won. In 1966 when Terry was in 7th grade, the family moved to Richfield, Utah. Except for living for a time in Idaho and Colorado before he got married, Richfield has been home for Terry and he loved it here.

On November 20, 1980, Terry married Sharon Ann Hansen in Lake Tahoe, Nevada. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Manti Temple. Terry and Sharon welcomed three wonderful children to their family: Jessica, Jamie and Chris. His children have been such a blessing. They enriched his life and made him better and he loved them dearly. His favorite title was grandpa. He adored Skylar, Autumn, Bridger and Brody. Terry loved being a brother and protector to his sister, Cheryl.

Terry started working at the A&W when he was 14 and never quit working until his retirement in 2010 after 28 years with Coca Cola.  Terry had a great work ethic and gave 100% to every job no matter how small. He passed this work ethic on to his children.

Terry has always had lots of friends. Many of these friendships developed when he was growing up and have continued the 50 plus years to today. Often we hear from people that they spent more time as a kid at Berg’s house than at their own. When Terry worked at Safeway he became good friends with shoppers as well as coworkers. He has close friends from his time with Coke, both with coworkers and customers. Then there’s his “bowling team” friends and many others. Terry treasured his friends, they were family. His friends have been so good to him through his illness, helping him go on the trips he loved when it became difficult for him.

Terry had a knack, intended or not, for saying funny things. His Terryisms are often quoted by his kids. We will miss them.

Terry is survived by his wife, Sharon; children: Jessica Ann Bergin, Jamie Lee (Jake) Barlow and Christopher Lynn Bergin; grandchildren: Skylar Grace Barlow, Autumn Ruby Barlow, Bridger Aaron Barlow and Brody Ryan Barlow; sister, Cheryl (Neil ) Izatt; and sister-in-law, Grace Bergin.  He was preceded in death by his parents; and brothers, George Bergin and John Bergin.

We express our sincere appreciation to Dr. Thomson and his team; to Jake; to Dr. Garner and his team; also the Hospice team: Jaycie, Lyndsey, Doug and Charlie. Thank you for your kindness and compassion.
