Robert Alma Nielsen, 83, passed away December 26, 2021 at his home in Annabella. He was born May 27, 1938 in Richfield to Joseph Fleet and Laurel Torgerson Nielsen.

Bob attended schools in Richfield, graduating from RHS in 1957. He went on to attend two years at Utah State University.  In the 6th grade he contracted Rheumatic Fever causing him to miss a full year of school.

Bob worked as a cook at the Rainbow Café during his high school years and during the summer in between his freshman and sophomore years at college. After college he worked for Walker Bank, first in Salt Lake City, then transferring to the branch in Price.

After many years in the banking industry, he changed professions and began working as a miner in the Hiawatha Coal Mine. While there, he was involved in a cave-in that took the lives of two other men standing next to him and left him beat up and bruised—but alive.  Moving on from the coal mines, he worked briefly at a warehouse in Orangeville and then went to training and shoeing race horses.  He returned briefly to SufCo Mines for about 5 years.  In retirement he returned to owing and training race horses.

He loved to hunt deer, elk and birds, and just being in the mountains.

Bob is survived by brother, Henry (Lynnda) Nielsen; sister-in-law, Janette Nielsen; step-children: Johnny Dameron, Damon Dameron Nielsen; and many nieces and nephews.

Preceded in death by his parents; sisters: Nora Mae (Val Dean) Jessen, Yora (Gordon) Rasmussen; brothers: Udell Joseph (Carol) Nielsen, and Jack Marion Nielsen; step-daughter, Connie Dameron.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, January 4, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. in the Annabella 1st  Ward Chapel, where friends may call from 9:30 -10:30 a.m. Burial will be in the Annabella Cemetery.  Funeral Directors: Magleby Mortuary, Richfield, Salina and Manti.
