Race Ence

Elsinore, Utah

Race Darren Ence, 15, of Elsinore passed away May 13, 2019 in Central Valley. He was born on November 24, 2003 in Provo. From a very small 3 lb 3 oz, he grew to be a tall, handsome cowboy, known for his long, curly hair. He attended school at Monroe Elementary and South Sevier Jr. High. At the time of his death he was a freshman at South Sevier High School. A member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, he was a Teacher in the Aaronic Priesthood. He enjoyed temple trips and other activities with his quorum.

Race had an unconditional love for all of his family, especially his little brothers and sisters. He was the oldest sibling on both sides of the family and took pride in being their protector. He was a child at heart, always being playful and causing trouble.

From a young age, Race could be found in the outdoors. He always enjoyed being in the saddle or in anything with wheels, including his motorcycle, four wheelers, and side by side. He loved hunting, shooting birds, fishing with his friends, and tinkering; he was always proud to fill his deer and elk tags. You could always count on him to have a knife in his pocket and to be the first to lend a hand.

He was an excellent farmer and spent hours and hours in the tractor listening to country music as he worked in the fields. He had a passion for raising and showing star-class hogs and lambs for the livestock show at the fair. He played baseball, soccer, football and wrestling, but his true love was rodeo and roping.

Race loved his horses and dogs; his black lab, Tex, was always by his side hunting and as he worked countless hours on the farm. He had determination and work ethic second to none and a wise nickname for everyone. His tender-heart and passion for the things he loved were admirable. He always gave it his all. Race lived by "work hard, play hard" and was the life of the party. His big, mischievous smile and natural smolder will never be forgotten.

Race, there will never be a mullet comparable to yours. We will never see ducks on the river without thinking of you and we’ll keep raising hell with you in our hearts!

Race is survived by his parents: DJ and Kadie Ence, Elsinore; and Shirae and Mitch Dickinson, Monroe; as well as his brothers and sisters: Bentlee, Emery, and Ellsie Ence, Chaylee (Devin), Stetson, Lexee, Daxton, and Carter Dickinson. He is the grandson of Darren and Lisa Ence, Shirley and the late Brent Durfey; Dusty and Jennette Torgerson; Bob and Shyanne Dickinson; great-grandparents: Dorothy Ence, Lois and Keith Bird, Warren and Marcia Harward; and many aunts, uncles, and cousins. Also preceded in death by great-grandparents: Jim Ence and Mary Lou Harward.
