Helen Gibbs
Marysvale, Utah
Helen Marie Hoover Gibbs, 79, was greeted with open arms as she entered the pearly gates of heaven on December 6, 2021 in Richfield.
Helen’s journey began September 10, 1942 in Provo, Utah. She was raised in Marysvale Canyon by Kenneth Holdaway and Ada Steele Hoover. Helen had a strong work ethic from a young age that carried into every aspect of her life. She loved to be busy and to be involved in everything that she could. She attended Marysvale High School where she was a cheerleader, and would cheer on her favorite basketball player Mike Gibbs.
Helen and Mike were high school sweethearts, king and queen of their senior prom, and had the type of love that only happens once and lasts forever. After graduating high school, Helen attended Hollywood Beauty School in Provo where she lived with her Grandma Skinner, and saved up her money to go visit Mike on the weekends. They were married as soon as she finished school on December 2, 1961 in Marysvale. They built their lives in Marysvale where they raised four beautiful daughters, and created memories that will always be cherished with their family and friends. Over their 60 years of marriage Helen cared for Mike every single day, and they adored each other always.
Helen was very talented and had many hobbies. She loved to laugh, play games, play tricks on people, and above all have fun. She was the life of the party, and if there wasn’t a party she started one. She loved hosting the town at her annual Halloween party; would go all out for the parade; and brought that same enthusiasm over the years to the PTA, fireman’s club, and every other community event.
Helen was a beautician for 60 years, and loved her ladies and having her own business. She took pride in everything that she did, and worked hard every single day of her life. She had a true love for people, and people truly loved her back. She spent hours learning how to use technology to keep up with her grandkids, and we will all miss receiving her kind messages checking in and reminding us how much she loves us.
Helen is survived by her husband, Michael L Gibbs; her daughters: Michelle (Doug) Jensen, Sherri (Kris) Poulson, Merri-Mike (Stephen) Frodsham, Terrie Coburn; her sisters: Joan Anderson, Carole Washburn; sister-in-law, Beverly Hoover; her 16 grandchildren, and 35 great-grandchildren. She leaves behind with each of us memories from holidays up the canyon, homemade breakfast in the morning, and the urge to dance to old country music while cleaning around the house.
She is preceded in death by her parents; her mother and father-in-law, Leon and Ethel Gibbs; her brothers: Kenneth Hoyt Hoover, Wayne Close; her sister, Ginger Lund; her brother-in-law Kelton “Kelly” Gibbs; and her granddaughter River Coburn.
