Donna Magleby
Monroe, Utah
Donna Jean Barney Magleby, 87, passed away November 29, 2021, in Monroe, Utah. She was born March 9, 1934, in Richfield, Utah, the daughter of Afton and Velda Farmer Barney. She graduated from Richfield High School class of 1952, where she was the drum majorette with the marching band. She married Dallin Lowe Magleby in the Manti Utah Temple on June 21 1957. They raised their three children together on the family farm in Monroe.
Donna was very industrious. She seemed to bottle anything, even deer meat, that could be preserved and stored for a rainy day. From the plentiful garden, the family would spend days bottling to prepare for a cold winter.
Donna loved to sew. She would drag her children to JC Penny’s to spend countless hours picking patterns, fabric, zippers and buttons. She made clothing for her and her children. She never wanted to discard a single piece of her clothing, as it was to be later remodeled for current trends. She was an excellent cook, and was especially known throughout the community for her salad making skills. We used to say she should have owned stock in Jell-O. Her grandchildren loved her famous strawberry jam, as it was generously slathered on Grandpa Dallin’s sourdough pancakes. She loved spending time at the family cabin and reservoir, where many fond memories were created.
She was employed with Zions Bank for 46 years, where she had several positions of leadership, including Region Operations Manager and Vice President. She was recognized as President of the National Association of Banking Women (NABW) towards the end of her career.
Donna was also recognized in Sevier County as one of the best dressed women.
Her family and friends loved her spunky and unfiltered sense of humor, even at the expense of offending others, including her children.
Sincerest appreciation to Marvin Hansen for the loving, caring and compassionate relationship that Mom shared with him the past seven years.
Donna is survived by her 3 children: Denise (Thayne) Gish, Providence; Daril (Dana) Magleby, Lindon; Devin Magleby, Monroe; 10 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren; brother, Larry Barney; brothers-in-law: Mark Snedegar, Phil Nielson; sister-in-law, Venice (David) LeFevre.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Dallin; daughters-in-law: Susan Black Magleby and Laurie Bell Magleby; grandchildren: Luke Shumway and Tana Shumway Maynes; great-grandson, Jaxon Gish; parents; siblings: Gladys (Lavell) Waters, Vonda Snedegar, Farrell (Jan) Barney.
