Darwin Thompson

Junction, Utah

Albert Darwin Thompson, age 81, passed away July 26, 2020 in St George, Utah surrounded by his wife and children. He was the youngest child of 8 born on May 27, 1939 in Salina, Utah to William Sidney and Thelda Lenore Halladay Thompson. He graduated from Piute High School in 1957 and attended college in Cedar City, Utah. He married JoAnn Davenport in 1961 and in 1963 they were sealed in the St. George Temple. They were married for 59 years. They raised 4 children together: Shawn (Debbie) Thompson, Circleville; Lezley Allen, Junction; Troy (Kellie) Thompson, Grantsville; Traci (Jaron) Carling, Moab. He has 13 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren.

Darwin loved the outdoors; he loved to fish and hunt and reminisce about the "ones" that got away. He loved watching western movies, listening to the radio, and driving around the valley making sure everything was as it should be. For many years he served the town of Junction from being mayor to the town’s go-to-person. But most of all he loved his family. Family was everything to him.

His youth was filled with riding horses, being out on the farm, and being with his dog, Ring. In his adult years he owned and operated a dairy farm for many years. He later became a truck driver, where he drove for 26 years and was known by many as "Doc" or "Dr. Dolittle."

Darwin never met a stranger that did not leave as a friend. Darwin was the town greeter, anyone who came into Junction was welcomed by him.

He was a devout member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He loved the scriptures and will be remembered for his kindness toward others. We will miss him but are comforted to know he is with God and his family that went before him.

He is survived by his wife, children, grandchildren, and sister, Loana (Guy) Price; sister-in-law, LaKay Holman. Preceded in death, by son-in-law, Kenneth L. Allen; parents, sisters: Aleta (Buck) Tomlinson, Paulma (Marden) Pearson, Virginia (Lynn) Savage, Charmaine (Robert) Luke; brothers: Don Thompson, Trevon Thompson, William G. Holman.
