Zan Barney

Olga Zan Williamson Barney passed peacefully into eternity at home in Elsinore, on October 9, 2023 at the age of 86. She was born on June 7, 1937 in Albertville, AL to Otis Kendall Williamson and Olga Viola Burgess. She married Renton L Barney on November 7, 1959 in Arlington, VA. On December 6, 2002 their marriage was solemnized in the Manti Temple. Renton preceded her in death on July 22, 2021.
Zan lived all over the south moving where the work was for her father, who was a carpenter. She graduated from Stewart High in Stewart, FL. After graduating high school she moved to Washington DC where she worked for Kiplinger Publishing.
In 1960 they moved to California for 40 years. After her children are all in school she went back to school, earning her bachelors in nursing and then master in nursing administration. She worked at Olive View Hospital for 25 years, retiring as the OR nursing administrator.
They retired to Monroe, but Zan wasn’t done working yet. She got a job with Weber State teaching nursing for a couple of years teaching LPN’s to be RN’s. Renton drove her around the state of Utah so she could do clinicals with her students and Renton golfed while he waited.
Zan and Renton served a senior mission in Guatemala City as the mission nurse for 80+ missionaries.
Zan is survived by her son, Shaun; daughter, Lesli Dawn Stok; brother, Michael Williamson; sister, Raquel Shelton; grandchildren: Nicole (Everett) Phillips, Conrad Barney, Shae (Birdy) Barney, Jacob Barney, Noah Barney, Lily Dunn; and 8 great-grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by her parents; son, Mark Kendall Barney; son-in-law, Edward Stok; grandsons: Dustin Ray Barney and Mark Kendall Barney, Jr.; siblings: Ginny, Judy, Jeff, and Tink
The family wants to thank the doctors, nurses and staff of Sandstone Richfield for their loving care of their mother.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, October 17, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. in the Magleby Mortuary Chapel, where friends may call from 9:30 - 10:30 a.m. Burial will be in the Monroe City Cemetery.
