William Scott Nielson, 76, passed away at his home in Elsinore on January 22, 2017. He was born January 14, 1941 in Elsinore to Niels Franklin and Virginia Bone Nielson. He married Marilyn Ence; they later divorced. He married Mary Lou DeMille; they later divorced. He married Janet Marie Buchanan Potter, March 23, 1989 in Jackson Hole, Wyoming. The marriage was solemnized December 27, 1997 in the Manti Temple.

He graduated from South Sevier High School and attended Southern Utah State College in Cedar City and graduated from BYU with a degree in Industrial Arts Education. He taught "Shop" and math in Idaho, Nephi and later Richfield, where he was able to move home to Elsinore. His passion for cattle was spent developing a purebred Angus cattle herd for the last 52 years.

An active member of the LDS Church, Scott fulfilled many callings over the years. He especially enjoyed his six years as an ordinance worker in the Manti Temple.

Scott is survived by his wife, Janet of Elsinore; brother, R.K. (Christine) Nielson, Monroe; and Scott’s children: Randy (Kate) Nielson, Bagdad, AZ; Tonia (Trent) Bohl, Silver City, NM; Gina (Alan) Hurst and Suzette (Jason) Boots, both Central Valley, UT; 13 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; step-children: Ellen (Nick) Jenkins, Dubois, WY; Kendall Potter, Mountain View, WY; Keturah (Rubin) Lujan, Imperial Beach, CA; Rees (Jessica) Potter, Mack, CO; Jared Potter, Dillon, MT; Yvonne (Shawn) Fullenbach, Draper; and Kara (Brent) Hafen, Richfield; 17 step-grandchildren; 5 step-great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to Scott’s favorite charity: Primary Children’s Foundation or to a charity of your own choosing.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, January 27, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. in the Elsinore LDS Ward Chapel. Friends may call at the Magleby Mortuary in Richfield on Thursday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. or at the ward chapel in Elsinore Friday morning from 9:30 to 10:30. Burial will be in the Elsinore Cemetery.
