William ‘Bill’ Peter Grassel, 90, passed away December 9, 2015 peacefully at his home in Marysvale. He was born June 8, 1925 in Park Falls, Wisconsin to Peter and Jennie Grassel. He married Maxine Marie Kessler on January 21, 1947 in San Diego, CA. She preceded him in death, January 12, 2005.
Bill retired from the U.S. Marine Corps after 20 years of service. He was in World War II and the Korean Conflict during his military career. He enjoyed traveling across 49 of the 50 United States with his wife Maxine during his retirement years. While not traveling his love was in woodworking. Bill made many gifts for people out of wood. He had a talent for transposing a simple piece of wood into a treasure for many and loved to give these gifts away to friends and family. His love of woodworking helped to build St. Elizabeth’s Catholic Church in Central Valley. Other hobbies included fishing and ATV’ing. He was also on the Piute County Posse.
Bill leaves behind a son, Paul Grassel, Stonington, Connecticut; granddaughter, Shelli Hogan, Cheshire, Connecticut; along with two great-grandchildren: Brendan and Meaghan Hogan. Bill was a very loving grandfather and great-grandfather and will be deeply missed. Bill’s siblings he leaves behind are a sister, Lorrain, Wisconsin; brother, Tom, California.
He was also preceded in deathby his parents; brother Bob; and sister, Betty.
At Bill’s request, at the time of his death, his body was donated to the University of Utah, School of Medicine, to benefit the health care concerns of citizens of the Intermountain West.
There will be a memorial service on Tuesday, December 29, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. in St Elizabeth’s Catholic Church, 810 North Hwy, 89 Central Valley, Utah.
