William Allen Martin, 87, passed away July 13, 2013 in South Jordan. He was born December 15, 1925 in Salt Lake City to Charles Allen and Eleanor Rose Martin. He married Annalou Thackeray, May 12, 1947 in Elko, Nevada. The marriage was solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple, September 30, 1981. She preceded him in death December 18, 1963. Married Alida Johanna Jongejan, later divorced. Married Margie Taylor November 3, 1980 in Salt Lake City. Their marriage was solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple February 2, 1981. She preceded him in death July 23, 2009.
Bill graduated from West High in Salt Lake at the age of 16. He worked at Hill Field until he joined the Merchant Marines, where he trained on Catalina Island. He sailed the oceans in a liberty ship carrying troops and supplies. After the war he went to work for Kennecot Copper where he worked for 47 years.
Bill loved to fish which he inherited from his father. Bill and his younger brother, Dave, worked together to invent a special bait which works very well.
Bill found the gospel late in life and he embraced it with all he had. His admonition to the youth is, "There is only one way—it’s the Lord’s Way." His life completely changed when he found the love of his life, Margie.
His family wishes to give special thanks for the love and care from hospice, Bill’s special angels: Crystal, Becky, Shanna Lee and Pat.
Survived by daughter: Diana Martin, Apache Junction, AZ; step-children: Paulette (Ron) Woodhouse, OR; Richard (Lisa Marie) Smith, Murray; Shauna (Scott) McGill, Salt Lake City; Ron (Lorie) Smith, Salt Lake City; grandson, Robby, Apache Junction, AZ; siblings: Shirley Haycock, Las Vegas, NV; Ron (Gean) Martin, Annabella; Gayle (Richard) Defa, Salt Lake City.
Preceded in death by parents; children: Linda Roberts, William Martin and Kirk Martin; grandson, Kip Roberts; brothers: Robert and Dave.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, July 20, 2013 at 12:00 Noon in the Annabella 1 st Ward Chapel. Friends may call Friday from 6-8 at the Magleby Mortuary, Richfield and Saturday at the ward chapel in Annabella from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Burial will be in the Annabella Cemetery with military rites by the Monroe American Legion Post #37 and Utah Honor Guard. Funeral Directors: Magleby Mortuary, Richfield, Salina and Manti.
