Wayland D. Shaw
Aurora, Utah
With heavy hearts we try and adequately give tribute to the leader of our Tribe. Wayland D. Shaw completed his earthly mission on Sunday June 14, 2020 at "High-Noon" leaving a legacy full of kind deeds and adventure. His smile was big and genuine, his laugh was infectious, and his love was unconditional. For 82 years he lived life to the fullest. Born December 3, 1937 in Aurora, Utah into a large family of 8 brothers and 3 sisters, Wayland’s love and commitment to family, along with his incredible work ethic, was given to him by his wonderful parents Lynn and Fern Shaw.
Wayland found the love of his life, Nanette Rogers, and was married for time and all eternity on June 23, 1957 in the Manti Utah Temple. Together they raised 4 children, and traveled throughout the west as Wayland was a skilled heavy equipment operator for Alder Construction for many years. They moved back to his beloved hometown of Aurora and Wayland built his family their dream home right next to his parents. His beautiful home has been the gathering place for Christmas parties, cousin camps, horseback riding, 4-wheeler excursions, garden harvesting, delicious Dutch oven meals, and BBQ’s under his gazebo. Grandpa Wayland organized the fun, at home, and in the mountains he so loved.
Grandpa’s mind and hands were designed to create. He could build or fix anything. He was a carpenter/engineer/architect/craftsman that never wasted an hour of the day. He finished his long productive career working at Burns Saddlery building anything that was needed, he was a true master-craftsman!
Wayland loved horses, a talented horseman that had a cosmic connection with any horse he mounted. He loved helping his son train race horses and make the after track horses into horses for his beloved grandchildren. Grandpa Wayland donated endless hours to many organizations; for over 20 years he drove tractors making the ground impeccable for events at the Blackhawk Arena and other events throughout the West.
He was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and held many callings throughout his lifetime.
Everyone who knew Wayland respected him and will miss him dearly. He had a keen sense of humor and was making everyone happy until his very last hour.
He is survived by his loving wife of 63 years Nanette; children: Scott (Danna) Shaw, Salina; Natalie (Allen) Curtis, West Jordan; DeAnn (Tye) Sawyer, Washington City; Brent (Laurel) Shaw, Santaquin; 15 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren; sisters: Linda Mickelsen, Judy (Roger) Myers, Raelene (Trent) Cowley.
Preceded in death by parents; and brothers: Devon, Reed, Theron, Kendall, Rondo, Rance and Brian
The family would like to thank Jason Okerlund and the helpful loving staff at Gunnison Valley Hospital.
