Von Elm Davis

Price/Richfield, Utah

Von Elm Davis, 88, our loving husband, father, brother, grandfather, great grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully at his home in Price on October 17, 2015. He was born January 1, 1927, in Venice, Utah to Clarence Merdell and Zilpha Jackson Davis. He was the fifth child of eight living children raised in Richfield. He was married and sealed to his loving wife and companion, Carol Dalley, on June 1, 1951, in the LDS St. George Temple.

When Von turned 18 years of age he was drafted into the army during WWII before he could finish his senior year at Richfield High School. His mother accepted his diploma at graduation in his absence. Von was a US Army Veteran of WWII, serving in the Pacific Theater. He began working at the age of six herding cows and continued working non-stop for 82 years. Jobs in his youth included working as a farmhand, picking sugar beets, running projectors in a movie theater, working in a grocery store, and building homes in East Carbon. He would give all of his earnings to his parents to help support their large family.

When Von returned from WWII, he attended and graduated from Branch Agricultural College (S.U.U.) in Cedar City. He played football as a tackle for B.A.C. and loved the game his entire life. While he was attending B.A.C. he began working for Lunt Motors, which began Von's career in the automobile business that would span more than 60 years. Von also worked with Pearson and Crofts in Richfield, UT, and eventually became a General Motors dealer and partner in Price, UT, for 40 years with Davis Croft Motors and Mountain View Motors.

Von's hobbies were working, farming, and livestock. He was generous and loved to give anything he had to others.

Von battled coronary heart disease and three different types of cancer. Through these health trials he developed great faith in the power of prayer and priesthood blessings.

Von was loved dearly by many and considered his family his greatest possession.

Survivors include his beloved wife, Carol, of 64 years, Price, UT; two daughters: Laurie (Chris) Nelson, Price, UT; and Janice (Jon) Passic, Christiansburg, VA; grandchildren: Greg (Amanda) Nelson, Kaysville, UT; Ryan (Carlie) Nelson, West Jordan, UT; Shauna Passic (Benjamin) Williams, Herriman, UT; Jyl Passic (Andrew) Robinson, Blacksburg, VA; and Lindsey Passic (Kurtis) Larsen, Christiansburg, VA; great-grandchildren: Emily, Ellyssa, Afton, Nathan, and Seth Nelson, Braxton Nelson, Adalyn and Cosette Williams, Alice and Cora Robinson, Luke and Meg Larsen; and surviving brother, Arlen Davis, Tuscon, AZ.

Proceeded in death by his parents, brothers, and sisters.

Von loved his many nieces and nephews and the family is especially grateful for the kindness and love shown by Dianne Gaillard Jensen and Don Gaillard.
