Sweetheart, mom, grandma, sister, our best friend — you have been and will ever be in our hearts until we rejoice in the eternities.
Vickie Johns Hunt, 57, passed away June 6, 2012 at her home in Monroe with her family at her side. She fought the good fight against cancer, and kept the faith as it took her home.
Born January 29, 1955 in Ogden to William Vernal and Lois Afton Sherman Johns, Vickie was the sixth of 10 children in her family. She moved to Monroe at the age of 4, and has been a lifelong resident of the Little Green Valley.
She married Stanley G Hunt, August 7, 1981 in the Provo LDS Temple. Together they raised four children, who became her pride and joy in life, joined by her four grandchildren in her later years. Family was the most important part of Vickie’s life, followed closely by her sense of duty and pride in her faith and community.
Through the years Vickie served diligently in numerous church callings, and cherished her time working with the children, the youth and with the compassionate services in the Relief Society, helping those in need.
She volunteered in the community with the civic league in Monroe, serving in the group’s presidency for many years, and coaching little league softball. As her children entered high school, Vickie began volunteering in the office and as a substitute teacher at South Sevier High School, later becoming a part-time custodian at the school, where she worked for 14 years alongside her sister and friend Mary Lois.
As a 1973 graduate of SSHS, Vickie took great pride in making her alma mater a better place to learn, and enjoyed her associations with the youth who attended the school.
As she fought against an aggressive diagnosis of kidney cancer for five months preceding her passing, Vickie was touched by the outreach from her family, friends and those in the community who took time to visit, write a note or simply ask how she was doing.
As her health faltered, Vickie said through simple acts of kindness one person can touch the lives of many, who will in return change that person’s life for the better.
Sweetheart, mom, grandma, sister, our best friend — as your soul passes through the veil of our tears into heaven, your life of service, kindness and love has been imprinted on our hearts more than you could have ever known.
