Vernon Carnell Hatch, 87, passed away Thursday, September 12, 2019 at his home in Richfield, UT due to natural causes. Carnell was born October 12, 1931 in Fairview, Utah to Vernon Henry and Pearl Mower Hatch. He attended grade school in Monroe and Richfield High School. At the age of 19 he joined the National Guard. They were called up and sent to Korea for 2 years. While in the military Carnell served as the number 1 cannoneer with the 213th Field Artillery and was later a cook in the kitchen.

After returning home from Korea he married LaVern Taylor May 24, 1954 in Las Vegas, NV. At that time he became father to LaVern’s daughter Marsha LaVern Thurston. Their marriage was solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple May 23, 1975 and Marsha was sealed to them at that time. LaVern preceded him in death March 7, 2000.

For many years Carnell worked at Snow College as a groundskeeper. He loved his work there and had many responsibilities. Carnell loved the outdoors, reading, and vintage cars. He was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served in many

capacities including Sunday School president and a counselor to 4 different High Priest Group

leaders. He loved the gospel of Jesus Christ as was evidenced by his life. He truly lived as an example of Jesus Christ.

After LaVern’s death, Carnell married Verla Mae Nelson on August 31, 2002 in the Manti Temple. Upon their marriage Carnell inherited Verla’s family of 6 children, 17 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild. He was a wonderful father and grandfather to all of them.

Carnell served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ at Cove Fort for 1 summer. Together Verla and Carnell served as temple workers at the Manti Temple for 3 years. Then in 2002 Verla and Carnell were called to serve a mission for Deseret Land and Livestock at Promontory. After returning from their mission they resumed their service in the Manti Temple for another 2 years.

Carnell is survived by his wife Verla; his daughters: Marsha Thurston, Leslie (Chris) Hixson, Lisa (Ross) Critchfield, and Andrea (Mark) Albee. He is also survived by brothers: Dale Hatch, Ross Hatch; and sisters: Pearl Dustin and Ann Memmott.

He was also preceded in death by his parents; siblings: Shirley Wilson, and ORell Guy Hatch.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, September 18, 2019 at 11 am at the Richfield 8th Ward Chapel, 800 North 500 East. Family and friends may call Tuesday evening from 6-8 pm at the Magleby Mortuary in Richfield, and 9:30 am-10:30 am prior to services at the ward chapel.
