Verlene Gleave

Antimony, Utah

Verlene Henderson Gleave, 84, passed away on February 12, 2015 in St. George, Utah, surrounded by her loving family. She was born September 18, 1930 in Cannonville, Utah to George and Fern Ora Henderson. She married J. Elden Gleave, May 23, 1949 in Cannonville, Utah. Their marriage was solemnized in the Manti Temple on October 12, 1979. Elden preceeded her in death on July 4, 1978. After being alone for 37 years, Verlene and Elden are finally together again.

Verlene was active in the LDS Church where she served in the Primary, Young Women’s, library, and was a visiting teacher for many years. She was always giving service to others using her time to make quilts, embroider and crochet many sets of pillowcases. She also made her famous plastic canvas boxes and napkin holders for family members and anyone else she knew and many she did not know.

She loved to collect dolls, ladybugs, and thimbles. She loved to garden and bottle the goods she raised. She also worked hard helping Elden out on the family farm.

The only treasures mom acquired was her family. She was a loving and generous person. She was a fantastic mother and grandmother who held her family close to her. She will be greatly missed by all of those who knew her.

The family would like to especially thank the nurses, CNA’s, and staff of Zions Way Hospice in St. George for their loving care and many kind acts of service over the past eight months. We would also like to thank the many other people who have shown their love and kindness while she was in Antimony and St. George.

She is survived by her children: Brenda Salvi, Rio Rancho, NM; Dale (Carol) Gleave, Cedar City; Patsy (Wes) Blake, Richfield; Nedra (Lynn) Abraham, St. George; Linda (Mike) Morris, Richfield; Trent Gleave, Enoch; Kristina (Mark) Basel, St. George; daughter-in-law, Reba Johnston; 20 grandchildren and 31 great-grandchildren; sisters: Golda Cottam, Escalante; and Lorna Peterson, Logandale, NV.

Also preceded in death by parents; sons: Larry and Brent; granddaughter, Hope; daughter-in-law, Shellie; brothers; Keith, Dee, Royal, Otha and Ned; sisters: Margaret, Ora, Melba.
