Verdell Dowell

Monroe, Utah

Agnes Verdell Hunt Dowell, 89, of Monroe, passed away February 27, 2014 in Richfield, Utah. After over hearing about the surgery and length of recovery required from a recent fall, Verdell woke to express her satisfaction with her life and her desire to check out. Following a heart-to-heart with Shelton, her husband of 63 years, and with his love and blessings, Verdell fell asleep to continue along her journey.

She was born July 28, 1924 in Pine, Arizona to John and Annie Belle Lazear Hunt. She attended Pine Elementary School and graduated from Flagstaff High and received a BS degree from BYU. Much to the dismay of her older sister, Mary, she eloped to marry Shelton Gillespie Dowell, Jr. May 20, 1950 in Las Vegas, NV. The marriage was solemnized July 18, 1975 in the Provo Utah Temple.

Verdell lived, worked and raised her family in Northern Arizona and Flagstaff. Later they moved to Monroe, where she and Shelton lived to be entertained, watched over and taken care of by Robert, Jerrele and their family.

She is survived by her husband; sons: John (Vicki) Dowell, Pinetop, AZ; Dan Dowell, Phoenix, AZ; Alan (Theresa) Dowell, Flagstaff, AZ; Robert (Jerrele) Dowell, Monroe; 18 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren; brother: Arthur (Erma) Hunt, Boise, Idaho.

Preceded in death by parents; siblings: John (Hattie) Hunt, Alma (Isabelle) Hunt, James (Deliliah) Hunt, Mary (Frank) Randall, Ina (Curley) Mauzy; sister-in-law, Marty Hunt.

The family wishes to express appreciation to the Monroe Canyon Assisted Living Center for their loving care of Mom.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 1, 2014 at 3:00 p.m. in the Monroe Stake Center, 140 South Main, where friends may call from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. Additional services and interment will take place Saturday, March 8, in Flagstaff, Arizona. Funeral Directors: Magleby Mortuary, Richfield, Salina and Manti. Online guestbook at www.maglebymortuary.com
