Velma P. Boulter
Escalante, Utah
Velma Porter Boulter, age 95, of Escalante, UT, passed at the Garfield Memorial Hospital in Panguitch, UT on Tuesday morning, October 15, 2013.
Velma was born June 11, 1918 in Escalante to Roland Porter and Mina Haws. She was the oldest of eight and is survived by brothers Vergean and Bobby with sisters Maxine and Yoland. Velma also left a legacy through her daughter Sondra, four grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren all of whom were the center of her thoughts each day.
Velma grew up in Escalante and remained there until she met Willard "Bunch" Arlin Boulter in the fall of ’36 when he was in Escalante working for the CCC. They were married July 21, 1937 and moved to Price, UT where their only child, Sondra, was born. Velma then moved to San Francisco where she remained for 25 years. She was blessed to have served in many church stake and ward Relief Societies, as well as the Oakland Temple.
In 1959 the family was sealed in the Los Angeles Temple. Velma and Bunch moved to Long Beach, CA where Velma would remain for another 10 years, again serving in the Church. Velma and Bunch’s next stop was Provo, UT where they remained until Bunch’s passing in 1984. Velma then returned home to her beloved Escalante where she was once again heavily involved in Church, as well as the Senior Citizen program and the Daughters of Utah Pioneers, where she served as a member for over 60 years and continued to teach up until her early 90’s.
Velma loved church books, crocheting, and shopping at DI every chance she got. More than anything, though, she loved her daughter, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She loved taking every opportunity to teach them about their strong church history and pioneer heritage.
She was loved deeply by her family and will be missed by many. Her passion for her heritage will live on thru her descendants. Notwithstanding her beloved mission to serve her Heavenly Father will continue on. We thank her for the lessons taught and the memories we have. We hope to see you soon "Kid!"
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, October 19, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. in the Escalante 2 nd Ward Chapel, where friends may call on Saturday from 9:30 to 10:30 prior to services. Burial will be in the Escalante Cemetery. Funeral Directors, Magleby Mortuary, Richfield, Salina and Manti.
