Vaughn Twitchell

Cannonville, Utah

Vaughn Tyler Twitchell, 91, of Cannonville, passed away November 11, 2014 in St. George. He was born November 5, 1923 in Cannonville to Loren Elroy and Ethel Tyler Twitchell. He married Mae Arjean Goulding on September 21, 1943 in the St. George Temple.

Dad was an extraordinarily hard worker and took great pride in a job well done. His work ethic was evident to all those around him. The Cannonville town park and cemetery never looked better than when Dad was the groundskeeper. His own yard and vegetable garden were always perfection. During a snowstorm he would start shoveling, never did he wait for the snow to stop, he just shoveled as it fell. And forget about using a snow blower, that would be to easy. He worked most days from sun-up until sun-down with strength and stamina of men half his age.

Dad loved sports. It didn’t matter the sport: football, basketball, baseball, golf, tennis, soccer, ...he loved them all. He also loved animals.

Dad was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints his entire life and served in many capacities including: scoutmaster, Young Men’s president and bishop. He took satisfaction in being ordained to several priesthood offices by three men, each of whom later became president and prophet of the Church.

In spite of losing his hearing and suffering severe physical disability at age 40, Dad spent countless hours at the St. George Temple in later years and accomplished in excess of 5,000 temple endowments.

He is survived by his wife; children: Ronald (Leah) Twitchell, South Jordan; Craig Twitchell, Bountiful; Arjean (Stewart) Ivie, Cannonville; Douglas (Tammy) Twitchell, Cedar City; Lori (Karl) Munford, Cedar City; 23 grandchildren and 46 great-grandchildren; brothers: Kerry (Margene) Campbell, Logan; Roger Campbell, Texas.

Preceded in death by: parents; infant son, Ross G. Twitchell; two sisters and three brothers.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, November 15, 2014 at 12:00 Noon in the Cannonville Ward Chapel, where friends may call from 10:00 - 11:30 a.m. Burial will be in the Cannonville Cemetery.
