Our beloved mother, Tonia Kay Barney, passed away peacefully at the age of 80 in her home in Monroe, surrounded by her family. She was born on August 9, 1940 in Glenwood, Utah to Joe and LaRue Chavez. She lost her battle to lung cancer on Friday November13, 2020.
Tonia was a very caring, loving, and devoted mother, wife and grandparent. She had a passion in her life which was her raspberries. The raspberries were known to be the best in Monroe. Tonia had other hobbies in her life, which were fishing, hunting, and most of all spending time with her family. Her upcoming came from a large family of 9.
She married Alan Webb Veater. He preceded her in death. She married Kerry Newell Barney, the love of her life June 30,1961. He preceded her in death.
Tonia spent 22 years in McGill, Nevada and moved to Monroe, Utah in 1988 to be closer to her parents.
She is survived by her kids: Joe (Robin) Veater, Salt Lake City; Carrie (Kerry) Roberts, Salina; Victor (Karen) Barney, Monro; and Cindy Barney (Robert Wallace), Monroe; daughter-in-law, Teresa Veater. She is also survived by 15 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren; siblings: Darlene Collier, Santequin; Betty Lurenz, Ely, NV; Kent (Billie Ann) Chavez, Grantsville; Phyllis Armstrong, Monroe; LaReesa (Ray) Baldwin, Beaver; Jolene Maldonado, Orem; Kathrine Jacobson, Beaver; brother-in-law, Don Colby, Monroe.
Also preceded in death by parents; son; Jerry K Veater, grandson, Kevin Von Crafts Jr.; sister, Jeannice Colby; brothers-in-law, Donald Collier, Kent Olsen, Vicktor Maldonado.
Tonia will forever be in our hearts and those special memories of her will never be forgotten, she has touched the hearts and souls of us all. Our mother taught us everything except how to live without her, it’s hard to forget someone who gave you so much to remember. Until we meet again our beautiful angel.
Cremation services were held in the Magleby Mortuary Crematory. Private family memorial services will be held on Saturday, December 5, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. in the Monroe 5th Ward Chapel, 140 South Main.
