Thomas David Hunt, 93, passed away July 29, 2014 in Monroe. He was born February 7, 1921 in Richfield to Thomas Alvin and Martha Brown Hunt. He married Alta Nielson on May 21, 1944 in Long Beach, California. She preceded him in death on May 5, 2004. Tom married Gloria McEwen, June 3, 2006 in Richfield.
Tom served in the Navy during WWII, and work for the war department. He received his bachelors degree from the University of Utah and his masters degree from the University of Denver. He developed a series of tv in-service training films that were distributed nationally. He taught at the Universities of Chicago, Utah and Alabama.
Tom was an expert gardener and later in life he learned to paint. He like to do genealogy and he decorated hundreds of wedding and birthday cakes for family and friends—a skill he learned in the Navy while a pastry chef on a WWII aircraft carrier.
Tom is survived by his wife, Gloria; children: Wayne (Carla) Hunt, Los Angeles, CA; Elaine Anderson, Salt Lake City; Niel (Jan) Hunt, Temecula, California; Ronald Hunt (Todd Bennett), Salt Lake City; step-children: James (Jayne) Ashurst, Allen (Naomi) Ashurst, Larry Ashurst, and Jennifer (Jake) VandeMyle, all of Richfield; 7 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.
Also preceded in death by his parents; son-in-law, Jim Anderson; grandson, Aaron Anderson; siblings: Thelma Loney, Ina Tuft, Vee Peterson, Carlyle Hunt, Lila Christensen and Ila Crane.
Funeral services will be held Friday, August 1, 2014 at 1:00 p.m. in the Magleby Mortuary Chapel, 50 South 100 West, where friends may call Thursday from 6-8 p.m. and Friday from 11:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Burial will be in the Richfield City Cemetery with military rites by the V.F.W. Sevier Post #5050 and Utah Honor Guard. Funeral Directors: Magleby Mortuary, Richfield, Salina and Manti.
