    Tomas Durant Bird, 90, passed away peacefully at his home in St George, on January 16, 2024. He was born January 5, 1934 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. He is the son of Thomas Bird and Elda (Duane) Gregerson. In 1964 he married Barta Peterson, for time and all eternity, in the Manti Temple. They were married for 50 years before she passed away in 2014. 

    Tom graduated from Bayview High School in Milwaukee. He served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Texas-Louisiana Mission. After his mission he served in the United States Army, then moved west to attend BYU. After graduating from BYU, he started working for the Boy Scouts of America and after over 33 exciting years he retired.

    Tom and Barta raised seven children in Ogden. He was active his whole life in the Restored Church serving in several leadership, teaching, and other callings. He loved adventure. He loved hiking, camping, hunting, fishing, rock hounding, metal detecting, wood working, gardening, silver-smithing and many other activities. He loved to play games and have shrimp busts and ice cream. Above all he loved taking care of Barta and all their children. 

    He is survived by his children: Olene (Scott) Yaeger, Lane (Sheila) Bird, Laraine (Randy) Billings, Judy (Michael) Johnson, Roger (Andrea) Bird, Brenda (Tom) Smith, and Daniel (Holly) Bird; 22 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren; siblings: Suzanne, Gary and Debra. 

    He was preceded in death by his parents; step-father; siblings: Daniel, Wayne and Durwin; and the love of his life, Barta. 

    Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 27, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. in the Fayette Ward Chapel, 99 South 100 East, Fayette where friends may call from 10:00 to 10:45 a.m. for a viewing. Burial will be in the Fayette City Cemetery with military honors by the Centerfield American Legion Post #105 and Utah Honor Guard. Funeral Directors: Magleby Mortuary, Richfield, Salina and Manti.
