Thelma Morrill Pope, 92 of Monroe, passed away November 28, 2017 in Richfield. She was born May 15, 1925 in Marysvale to Clarence H. and Ada Howes Morrill
After graduating from Marysvale High School, Thelma enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1945, traveling to New York for boot camp training, then to Great Lakes, Ill., for nursing school. After graduation, she was stationed in Oceanside, CA. After her return from her term of service, she met Elsworth J. Pope at a dance in the summer and were married on January 18, 1947 in Las Vegas, NV. The marriage was solemnized, May 13, 1964 in the Manti Utah Temple. He preceded her in death July 21, 1999.
Thelma enjoyed quilting, riding in the mountains and visiting with her family. She has held numerous church callings and was a 4-H leader. She worked full time at the Richfield Sears store before her retirement.
She is survived by her daughter, Shirley (Arlo) Maag, Monroe; 7 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; 11 great-great-grandchildren; siblings: Cleora Peterson, Mt. Pleasant; Dale (Shirley) Morrill, Junction; Ida Ann Wanless, Monroe. In addition to her husband and parents, she is preceded in death by a son, Morell Joe Pope; brothers: Denzil "Bud" (Lottie) Morrill, Harold Morrill, Steve Morrill; twin great-great-granddaughters: Abigail and Madison Roberts.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, December 2, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. in the Magleby Mortuary Chapel. Friends may call at the Magleby Mortuary on Friday evening from 6 to 8 or on Saturday from 12:30 to 1:30. Burial will be in the Monroe City Cemetery with military honors by the Monroe American Legion Post #37 and the U.S. Navy Honor Guard.
