Terry Lee Larsen

d. September 29, 2023

Sterling

Terry Lee Larsen passed away September 29, 2023  at his home, surrounded by his loving family at the age of 75, after valiantly enduring many years of complicated health issues.  He will be  dearly missed and never forgotten.
Terry was born June 7, 1948 in Gunnison to Don C. and Vivian A. Larsen and was the oldest of five children:  Brent, Scott, Deanna and Barbara Dawn. Terry attended the Sterling Public School and graduated from Manti High School Class of 1966 . He was a life-time member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.
He began working at Pacific Trail Sportswear in his junior year and later became manager of the shipping department.  He also worked at L & M Trailer. He married Yvonne Voorhees May 16, 1969 in Manti.  After living a short time in Manti they moved to Sterling where they have resided for the past 53 years. Together they have made a lifetime of memories.
Terry (aka) “Bandit” on the CB radio drove truck for Robinson Transport and Cox Enterprise/Cox Rock Products, owned and operated his own trucking business for a period of time which involved many miles on the road and away from home.  He then decided to follow his dreams and started Sterling Shooting Specialties making bullets.  With his family’s support they attended various Gun Shows throughout the state selling bullets, knives and leatherwork made by other hometown craftsman. It was then he became inspired to build and operate Palisade Super Service/Sterling Shooting Specialties with a full line of guns, ammo, fishing supplies, groceries, snacks  and deli in July of 1989. Another addition to the store was made in 1995 when Terry became Sterling’s postmaster. Bulk fuel deliveries made to nearby farmers in the area was another adventure to get back in the seat of a big truck and the business then became known as Larsen Oil but has always been known more affectionately as “Terry’s”. It quickly became the morning coffee hot spot and gathering place for family and friends in Sterling for 17 years. During these years he also drove bus for the South Sanpete School District, retiring in 2016.
Terry’s fondest memories were camping, hunting, fishing and cutting down the yearly Christmas tree in Six-Mile Canyon with his family and friends.  His passion for the preservation of wildlife, habitat and our hunting heritage Terry was the Founding Father in forming the Skyline Chapter of the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation in 1992.  He also was an avid reader of books that explored many subjects and long conversations with others who had the same passion.
He is survived by his loving wife and caretaker, Yvonne; children: Rebecca (Jonnie Ross) Carter, and Terry Lee Jr. (Amy Kae Cullum); mother, Vivian; grandchildren: Captain Landon Ross Carter, (Kylee), Dallin Reid Carter (Kennedy), Collin Lee Carter (Shelby), Peyton Lee Larsen, Brynlee Larsen, and Blake Larsen; great-grandsons: Grayson Ross Carter, Owen Reid Carter; and a great- granddaughter due in January; siblings: Melvin Brent Larsen, Deanna Lynn Anderson, and Charles Scott Larsen (Cindy).
Preceded in death by his father Don C. Larsen; infant sister, Barbara Dawn Larsen; in-laws, Stanley R.  and Margaret C. Voorhees; and his best-friend, Randy L. Edwards whom he spoke of often.
A special thank you to PA Wade Anderson, Dr. Saundra Buys and nurse Hope Jensen of Gunnison Valley Hospice for their love and special care of our sweet husband, father and grandpa.
