Ted Richard Smith, 76, of Monroe, passed away December 4, 2016 in Provo from medical complications. Ted was born July 27, 1940 in Payson, to Richard Alvin "Dick" and Clarice Winget Smith. He married Wana Faye Johnson, May 28, 1960 in Monroe, the marriage was solemnized in the Manti Temple, September 16, 1961. She preceded him in death December 2, 2015.
Ted worked for Utah Power and Light for 39 years, retiring as dispatcher. He worked with his wife as head custodian and grounds keeper for the Richfield Facilities Maintenance Group of the LDS Church that covered 5 stakes.
He was an active member of the LDS Church where he served faithfully in many callings, including bishop of the Monroe 1st Ward. While bishop, he supervised the complete renovation and rebuilding of the Monroe North Ward Building and many other building projects in the Monroe Utah Stake.
Ted was always busy. He was a Master Carpenter and woodworker, he also did beautiful hand work with ceramics, quilting and cross stitching. He spent countless hours gardening, weeding and tending his flowers. He loved to travel by car with his family so he could stop when he wanted to see the surrounding sites. Ted was known in the community as being a great athlete and loved coaching the youth in various sports for many years.
He is survived by his children: Aderianna (Cameron) Jackson, Shawn (Toni) Smith, Terri (Mark) Bateman, Donavan (Jill) Smith, Brady (Michelle) Smith, Timaree (Eladio) Bobadilla; 10 grandsons and 9 granddaughters; siblings: Deanna (Rick) Olcott and Alan (Terri Lin) Smith. He is also preceded in death by his parents; grandson, James Smith.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, December 10, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. in the Monroe 1st LDS Ward Chapel, 50 East 200 North. Friends may call at the Magleby Mortuary in Richfield on Friday evening from 6 to 8 or at the ward chapel on Saturday from 8:30 to 9:30. Burial will be in the Monroe City Cemetery.
