Coco Chanel said, "Every girl should be two things - classy, and fabulous." Tamara Garlick Barnett, 55, who was killed in a car accident in New Zealand on March 11, 2015, personified that sentiment.

Known for her boisterous and infectious laugh, her larger-than-life style, and her fierce love of her family and fountain Coke with ice, Tammy has left a legacy of love, generosity, and humor that will be treasured by all whose lives she touched.

Tammy was born June 1, 1959 in Salt Lake City. She grew up in Kaysville, and went to Davis High School. Being the only daughter in a family of eight children made her both indomitably tough and the princess of her realm.

In 1980 she married her life-long sweetheart, Richard Barnett, in the Salt Lake City temple. They met while in the marching band at the University of Utah. They had four children who were the center of her life. She truly was, as her late father Gary Garlick once said, "a rose among thorns."

Her life and example helped those around her blossom as well. Her home was always open to those who needed a refuge, and she was at the ready with a kind word, a treat, a therapeutic shopping spree, or a shoulder to cry on. Heaven is a little more sparkly, and Earth a little less so for having lost her.

Her spirit of light, love, and kindness are honored and cherished by those who survive her: her husband, Richard; her mother, Sheila Garlick; and her brothers: Shane, Monte, Brett, Darrin, Troy, Shannon, and Brian Garlick. That spirit lives on in her children: Christopher (Carma) Barnett, Gregory Barnett, Andrew Barnett, and Brianna (Christopher) Strebel; and her seven grandchildren.

She lived by the motto, "Go big or go home," and in the end, she did both.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Peterson family through any Zion’s bank. To honor Tammy’s memory, please raise a glass of Coke.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, March 26, 2015 at 1:00 p.m. in the Richfield East Stake Center, 800 N. 500 E. Friends may call Wednesday from 5-8 p.m. at the Magleby Mortuary in Richfield and Thursday at the stake center from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Burial will be in the Richfield City Cemetery.
