Sydney DeLeeuw-Richards
1956 - 2018
Sydney Rasmusson Beckstead DeLeeuw-Richards, 62, passed away peacefully at home on August 7, 2018 after years of ill health. Syd is married to Rich Richards and they made their home in West Jordan, Utah.
Syd was born January 21, 1956 in Logan, Utah, the first child of Juel and Ann Shand Rasmusson. She has four younger sisters and two younger brothers.
The first years of her life were spent in Logan, Montana and Wyoming. When she was seven years old, her family moved to Manti to raise cattle and kids, this is where she grew up.
Syd quickly became her dad’s "right hand man" on the farm and that is where she acquired her love of horses. She was active in 4-H Horse Riding Club, was an excellent rider and had a special way with horses. She became a competitive barrel racer and won many prizes with her favorite horse, Little Red.
She loved her brothers and sisters; she was always there for them. After she married, it was not uncommon for her to show up with a carload of gifts for her younger siblings.
She graduated from Manti High School in 1974. She excelled in school, especially in business classes. She loved her classmates and couldn’t stop talking about her last class reunion of 2014. Syd attended Snow College and LDS Business School.
She married Dee Beckstead, they later divorced. It was during her marriage to Dee that she was bless with her two children: Ashlie and Heath. She married Kelly DeLeeuw, they later divorced. Though her marriages to Dee Beckstead and Kelly DeLeeuw ended in divorce, she loved and accepted their children as her own family. She later married Rich Richards.
She considered her greatest accomplishment to be her children and grandchildren. She loved them with all of her heart. The joy they brought into her life cannot be measured.
She was an excellent seamstress, as well as a great cook. She loved camping, reading, keeping up with current events and antiquing with her friend, Naya Hardy.
Syd had a strong work ethic and loved working. Her career included: St. Marks Hospital, Alta Health Strategies, Inc., Mary Kay Representative - where one of her prizes was a car, and the U.S. Postal Service, retiring this past June.
Syd was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She was always generous with what she had. She was one of those rare individuals who loved everyone and judged no one. We will all miss her everyday.
She is survived by her husband, Rich; children: Ashlie (Sky) Storey, Heath Beckstead; stepsons: Josh and Bobby Richards; grandchildren: Stran, Swayzie, Daniell and Haylen; parents; Juel and Ann Rasmusson; siblings: Stacey (Thomas) Heaton, Jill (Matthew) Nielson, Julie (Russel) Cox, Shand (Angie) Rasmusson, Jedd (LaVonna) Rasmusson, Heather (Christopher) Dorney. Also surviving is a special aunt, Sylvia, who Syd loved dearly as well as many other loving aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews; special friend Naya Hardy.
The family extends a special thank you to Dr. Farouk for his care and kind concern of Sydney.
