It is with profound sorrow that we announce the passing of Sue Ann Faatz Francks, a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend to all who knew her. Sue Ann passed away peacefully on December 31, 2024, at the age of 80, surrounded by the love of her family.
Born on January 2, 1944, in Mayfield, Utah, Sue Ann was the daughter of the late Barbara Devoda Voorhees and Donald Carl Faatz. She grew up in Mayfield, where she became a source of love, kindness, and nurturing to all who knew her.
On September 12, 1969, she married her soulmate, John LaVar Francks. Their marriage was a testament to unconditional love and unwavering devotion. Together, they created a home filled with warmth, laughter, and cherished memories. Their love was the foundation of their family. Sue Ann often spoke of the joy and strength she found in LaVar, and their partnership remains an enduring example to all who knew them.
Sue Ann and LaVar’s home was a haven not only for their nine children—Michael (Kathryn), Mikkie (Don), Matthew (Jo), Merilee (Todd) Jardine, Mindee (Matthew) Jenkins, Marshall (Jessica), Marcee (Chris) Gundry, Mandon (Melinda), and McClain—but also for friends and extended family. As a proud and loving matriarch, Sue Ann celebrated her family’s achievements and milestones with unwavering enthusiasm.
She treasured her roles as wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and aunt. Her role as a grandmother was where her love truly flourished. She was cherished by her 32 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren, who brought her endless joy. She took immense pride in each of their lives and accomplishments.
Beyond her roles as a devoted wife and mother, Sue Ann was a woman of extraordinary talent and boundless creativity. She generously shared her gifts with her family, friends, and community, leaving a lasting impact on all who knew her. An accomplished seamstress, she crafted everything from everyday clothing to intricate costumes that delighted her children, grandchildren, and community. Her culinary skills were equally remarkable, with her delicious meals and desserts often becoming the centerpiece of family and community gatherings. She was also a gifted writer, weaving poems and stories that reflected her unique perspective. Her creativity had a way of transforming the ordinary into the extraordinary, adding beauty, warmth, and meaning to every moment she touched.
Sue Ann’s faith and generosity were pillars of her life. Her home was always open, her table always welcoming, and her advice always wise. She had a remarkable ability to make others feel valued and loved, becoming a mentor, confidante, and beacon of kindness to all who crossed her path.
Her family will forever treasure the lessons she taught about resilience, compassion, and finding joy in life’s simple pleasures. Sue Ann’s influence extended far beyond her immediate family, as she touched countless lives through her warmth, creativity, and unwavering belief in the goodness of people.
Sue Ann is survived by her seven living children, 32 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, her sister and best friend, Vickie (Jerel) Hill, her baby brother, Dennis (Renee) Faatz, along with countless nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, LaVar; her parents; her son, Michael; her daughter, Merilee; her granddaughter, Barbara Ryan Harper; and her brother, Gary Donald Faatz.
Graveside services will be held at Ephraim City Cemetery on January 7, 2025, at 12:00 p.m., where family and friends will gather to celebrate her extraordinary life.
Sue Ann’s life was a masterpiece of love, creativity, and kindness. May she rest in peace, forever united with her beloved LaVar, and may her legacy of joy and devotion continue to inspire all who knew her.
