Spencer Nunley
Monroe, Utah
Spencer Lynn Nunley passed away peacefully after a long battle with cancer on December 29, 2024 in Monroe, Utah. He was born September 15, 1935, in Salt Lake City, Utah to Isaac Raymond and Rosemoyne (Smith) Nunley. Lynn grew up in a large family and was taught at an early age how to cook by helping his mother in the kitchen. He often reminisced about his family of origin, sharing his memories with his children.
Lynn married Donna Mae Peters in Salt Lake City, Utah on January 22, 1958. They were later sealed in the Salt Lake Temple on the same day in January in 1982. They were married for nearly sixty-five years. Their time together was a grand adventure that began at the Grand Ole Opry and consisted of the ups and downs of life, which they faced with courage and love. Donna was the love of his life! Together they raised five children and two grandsons (Willie and Chase).
Lynn is survived by his wife, Donna Mae (Peters) Nunley, his children Roseann (Shawn) Lindsay, Samantha Dawn (Kenneth) Reich, his sister Dawn Champion of Florida, grandchildren Jessica (Toby) Dawn Triptow, Rickie (Katie) Gene Lindsay, Cameron James Nunley, Wrex (Whitney) Lindsay, Spencer (Aubrey) Lindsay, William Lynn John Nunley, Wade (Livia) Lindsay, Chandler Alan Nunley, Riley (Jakelle) Lindsay, Chase Lee Nunley (engaged to Miranda), Emerson (RaeAnn) Aaron Nunley, Natasha Rose Lindsay, Alexis (McKenzie) Leigh Turnbull, Edison Barry Nunley, Ann Elizabeth Reich, Jackson (Emmaline) Kenneth Reich, Tanner Seven Nunley, Dallas Nunley, Edward Nicholas Reich, and 27 great-grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and Rosemoyne Nunley, sons, Kelly Lynn Nunley, William Ray Nunley, Barry Spencer Nunley, granddaughter Elizabeth Jayde Fowler and siblings, Raymond Paul Nunley Sr., Norma Larue Tanner, Philip Smith Nunley, Samuel Kent Nunley, and Terry Wayne Nunley.
Lynn enjoyed visiting with family and friends, telling stories and making them laugh. His passion for cooking lasted throughout his life, bringing him joy whenever he could prepare food for those he loved. He really liked sweets too, which was apparent when he would sliver piece after piece of cake and sample the ice cream even before the party started.
Lynn passed on the value of hard work to his posterity. He worked hard and he taught his children and grandchildren to work hard. For many years, he ran a high-quality painting business with his brother, Terry, and his cousin, Jim. Their long days of work were somehow transformed into a fun, enjoyable experience whenever they were together. Lynn cherished these friendships for the rest of his life. Later, Lynn and Donna started a second business buying, fixing up, renting out and selling property. The money he had saved painting houses made this business possible.
Lynn’s favorite thing was spending time with his family at his cabins in Big Cottonwood Canyon. Every chance he got he would head up the canyon with his family for a day of good food and beautiful scenery, John Denver music and taking turns choosing rolls for the player piano. He was so happy at the cabin!
Lynn cherished his family and was so grateful whenever they came to visit. To Lynn, family was extremely important, and he worried when one of his tribe was struggling. He cared deeply and wanted to help whenever he could. Lynn and Donna experienced the heartbreak of losing three of their sons, whom they loved very much. Lynn found comfort in his faith and often expressed his belief in the Atonement of Jesus Christ and that families can be together again after this life. He had faith that he would be reunited with those who had gone on before him.
