Shirley Arlene Kitchen Miller, 75, passed away peacefully on October 4, 2023 of natural causes. She was born on March 14, 1948 in Nampa, Idaho.
Being from Idaho, Shirley naturally loved potatoes, often eating them daily. She was a nature lover and enjoyed taking miles-long walks. She was an excellent seamstress and an avid reader. She especially loved to travel and spent many of her golden years living in South and Central America, including Mexico, Guatemala, Belize and Peru.
Professionally she held a Bachelor’s Degree in Education from Utah State University and a Master’s Degree in Special Education Teaching from the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater. She used her skills in many capacities from teaching on the Menominee Indian Reservation in Wisconsin to serving the needs of autistic children in Arizona. She especially enjoyed teaching English as a second language to Spanish speaking people.
Shirley had a smile that lit up her face, a generous heart, a contagious laugh, an adventurous spirit, an active imagination and constantly tried to improve the lives of the people she cared about.
She is survived by her four children: Marcela Miller, Ginger (John) Cutler, Deborah (Rick) Loerke, and Kamicia Miller; six grandchildren. She is the fourth daughter of a large family of eleven and is survived by siblings: Darlene (Mark) Hansen, Kenneth (Molly) Kitchen, Thomas (Janice) Kitchen, Barbara (Keith) Anderson, Sara Kitchen, and Darwin (Laurie) Kitchen; brothers-in-law, Laurel Van Dyke, Bill Fiedler, James Dye.
Preceding her in passing are her parents: Arlo Asay and Fairy Fern Chase Kitchen; as well as siblings: Margaret Van Dyke, Norma Jean Lind, Frances Fiedler, and Cynthia Dye.
A graveside ceremony will be held on Tuesday, October 10, 2023 at 11:00 am in the Richfield City Cemetery. Funeral Directors: Magleby Mortuary, Richfield, Salina and Manti. Online guestbook at www.maglebymortuary.com
