Alice Shirley Jessen Luke, 86, passed away August 18, 2016, at her home in Kingston. Born May 18, 1930, in Richfield to Christopher Leo and Matilda Fern Jacklin Jessen. Married R. Dwain Luke December 17, 1946, in the Manti Temple. He preceded her in death October 7, 2013.
Shirley was active in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many positions. She worked in the Piute County School Lunch program for five years and worked as a chef at the Lion House in Salt Lake City for 16 years. She was an excellent cook, gardener, and homemaker. She was always working on one craft project or another. She completed quilts for her children and grandchildren. She also made many baby quilts and blankets for friends and family. She enjoyed traveling with Dwain and spending time with her family. Always the first to help family, neighbors and friends in time of need.
She is survived by her children: Steven D. Luke, Kingston; Shirlene Luke, St. George; LeAnn (Marlon) Fox, St. George; Kathy Fox, South Jordan; 12 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren; siblings: Joan (Leo) Morrow, Sandy; Martha Mattinson, Tooele; Carlos (Liz) Jessen, Kingston; brother-in-law, Charles Morrison, LaVerkin
Preceded in death by her parents; husband, R. Dwain; daughter-in-law, Lydia Luke; son-in-law Owen K. Fox; grandson, William D. Luke; great-grandson, Brandon Turley; sisters: Cleafern (Bob) Sullivan, Leila Morrison; brother-in-law Gene Mattinson.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, August 27, 2016, at 12:00 noon in the Circleville 2nd Ward, where friends may call from 10:00 to 11:30 a.m. Burial will be in the Kingston Cemetery. Funeral Directors: Magleby Mortuary, Richfield, Salina and Manti.
