Shirley Glee Cowley Bastian, 93, passed from this life January 21, 2020 in Orem, Utah, surrounded by her family. She was born July 23, 1926 to Israel Abner and Ann Pratt Hawkes Cowley, in Venice, Utah. She married her forever love, Garn K Bastian of Sigurd, Utah, on September 26, 1946 in Venice, Utah. Their marriage was later solemnized In the Manti Utah Temple. He preceded her in death March 6, 2006.

Shirley grew up in Venice with her brothers and sisters: Thora Ann, Abner Conrad, Curtis Fredrick and Delles Rae. She had many talents. She played the piano, rode horses and was the first attendant to the queen at the Kow Kounty Karnival, a former celebration held in Richfield, Utah. Shirley was an accomplished seamstress, an exceptional Avon Lady, and an excellent cook. She had a beautiful voice and sang in the ward choir, and as part of a trio and a quartet.

She was Sigurd town clerk well into her 70’s, learning to run a computer during that time.

She loved her pioneer heritage and truly enjoyed her Daughters of Utah Pioneers meetings each month and served in various positions.

Shirley was a wonderful mother, grandmother and grandma "great". She always told us "Nothing is more important than family!" Garn said she was the best tractor driver he ever had

A faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Shirley served as a Relief Society president, and held many other positions throughout her life. She had a deep and abiding testimony of her Heavenly Father.

She is survived by her children: Kathy Kay Baum, Orem; Ileen (Bradley) Keele, West Jordan; Ann Louise (David) Marshall, Leeds/Beaver; Terry Garn (Sandra) Bastian, Mapleton; 16 grandchildren, 39 great-grandchildren, and 9 great-great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law: Ileen McBride, Richfield; Yvonne Bastian, Colorado; brother-in-law, Brent Bastian, Richfield; and her dear friend, Vickie Houston, Sigurd.
