Sherry Thorn
Richfield, Utah
Sherry Eileen Stockman Thorn, age 73, passed away on Wednesday, September 6, 2023, at her home in Richfield, after a valiant battle with Ocular Melanoma. Sherry was born October 14, 1949, in Chicago, IL as the eldest child of Glen and Elizabeth Zimmerman Stockman. On July 3, 1976, Sherry married her soul mate, Ronald Frederick Thorn, in St. Boniface Catholic Church, in Monee, IL.
Sherry graduated from Crete Monee High School where she enjoyed the endless possibility of learning new things, but most especially found joy in chorus and as a madrigal. Sherry enjoyed music and singing and if a situation presented that reminded her of a song, you could almost always count on her to start singing it.
In 1979, she was certified as a mental health technician with the state of Illinois and started what would become a lifelong career path with disabled individuals. Sherry retired from Sevier School District in 2015 as a motor therapy assistant but did not stop volunteering her time and energy wherever she could help.
Sherry was an amazing wife, mother, and nana. She was the brightest light in our family and always showed us that her love was without boundaries and her devotion to helping others ran deep. Her heart was larger than can be measured and impossible to match. Our world feels dimmer without her shining presence.
She is survived by the love of her life, husband of 47 years, Ronald Thorn; children: Anthony Thorn, Newport News, VA; Lyrica (Dan) DeMille, Richfield; Christopher (Philip) Thorn, Colorado Springs, CO; Matthew (Jamie) Thorn, Afton, VA; daughter-in-law, Jennifer Thorn, Newport News, VA; and many cherished grandchildren; siblings: Kevin (Mary Ann) Stockman, Murfreesboro, TN; Jeffrey (Margie) Jacobs, Chicago Heights, IL; Indie (Glenn) Stockman Smith, Rome, GA; Sandie Stockman, Stuart, FL; sisters-in-law, Francis (Bill) Johnson, Marysvale; Pamela Jason, Chicago, IL; and countless loved nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; beloved stepfather, William “Jake” Jacobs; stepmother, Ophelia “Dusty” Stockman; siblings: Ardi Stockman Raske and Mark Jacobs.
