Sherrill DeRell Porter, 84, has returned to the arms of our Heavenly Father on September 15, 2021 at his home in Escalante, UT surrounded by his loving family. He was born on July 9, 1937 to DeRell and Twilia Schow Porter in Escalante, UT. His parents later divorced. He married Shirley Iris Northrup on November 20, 1956 in Salt Lake City.
He served in the U.S Army as a medic. He worked for Salt Lake County as a land surveyor, May Machine as a machinist, later Bush & Gudgell as a land surveyor where he retired.
He loved the outdoors, hunting and fishing. He loved having BBQ’s on the weekend with his family. He loved fly fishing. He learned how to fly small planes. His family meant everything to him.
He leaves behind his wife, Shirley; sons: Kim, Charles (Kathy); daughter, Darcy (Mike) Brannin; 10 grandkids and 20 great-grandkids; siblings: Carla Bryant, Lynn Porter.
Preceded in death by his parents; and sister, Gaytha (Art) Loeffler; brother-in-law, Tom Bryant.
Cremation services to be held at the Magleby Mortuary Crematory. Dedication of the grave will be on Saturday, October 2, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. in the Escalante Cemetery with military honors by the Escalante American Legion Post #0114 and Utah Honor Guard. A celebration of life will follow at the Lion’s Park, 100 N Center St, Escalante, UT. If inclement weather, the celebration will be held at the Escalante Ward Chapel, 80 South Center.
