Shelby Wayne Hatch Sr., 79, passed away January 2, 2014 in Forest Grove, Oregon. He was born June 19, 1934 in Koosharem, Utah to Thelma Virginia Smith and Lorin Elroy Hatch.
Shelby spent most of his adult life in Moab, Utah. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and spent as much time as possible in the outdoors. Shelby served in the Army and was honorably discharged in 1961. Shelby was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served a senor mission at the Monticello, Utah Temple.
Shelby spent the last few of his "golden years" at the Hawthorne House Memory Care Center, where he was one of the few men (sometimes the only man). He was very popular at the dances and was known there as "Blue Eyes". His family would like to thank the staff, for the caring and dignified manner in which he was cared for while he was there.
Shelby is survived by his children: Shelby W. Hatch Jr.; Virginia "Jinnie" (Jerry) Axtell; Randy Tim Hatch; nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; sisters: Donna Lee Lewis; Evelyn Vail; brothers: Sheryl (Vonell) Hatch, Hal Hatch.
Preceded in death by parents; sons: Ernest "Ernie" Lorin Hatch, and Ben "Benny" Elroy Hatch; brother: Reldon Hatch; brothers-in-law, Brice Lewis, Dennis Vail.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 25, 2014 at 12:00 Noon in the Koosharem Utah LDS Chapel at 16 N Main where friends may call from 10:30 – 11:30 am. Burial will be in the Koosharem Cemetery. Funeral Directors: Magleby Mortuary, Richfield, Salina, and Manti.
