Sharon Hansen
Elsinore, Utah
Our loving mom and grandma passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, March 21, 2023 in Elsinore at her home watching TV and enjoying a nighttime snack of milk and cookies with her beloved husband, Kendal. She was born the second child to Howard and Ula Jones, April 17, 1941 in Richfield.
She graduated from Richfield High School where she enjoyed baton twirling as a majorette with the marching band. She took pleasure in dance, especially tap, and loved to sing and whistle. Sharon could whistle intricate tunes never faltering the pitch.
Sharon married Kendal Hansen in Ely, Nevada, December 8, 1965. Their marriage was solemnized in the Manti Temple, August 21, 1974. Together, they experienced the adventure of raising ten children.
Sharon was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, serving in many capacities. Her favorites were dance director and chorister. She faithfully served as Relief Society president, but was never comfortable giving a lesson or a talk. She had tremendous compassion for the underdog and spent many hours working on humanitarian projects.
An enthusiastic arm-chair Jazz fan, Sharon made it a point to catch the games and giving coaching advice from her living room. She loved daisies, the color blue, hummingbird feeders, and wind chimes; and could not stand the smell of garlic.
Early in her later years, she loved joining her friends to perform with their kitchen band, “The Moppetts”, traveling the state to entertain opportune crowds. She and Kendal became quite the travelers: taking tours, going on cruises, and seeing exotic places like Mount Rushmore and Puerto Rico. Their first cruise was to Alaska and that started it all — visiting Mexico, Central America, Europe, the Caribbean, and many places in the states.
Her love for concerts, plays, and shows grew right along with her age and she was over the moon when she didn’t have to wear a dress. She frequently had season tickets to various professional theaters but equally loved the local shows. She enjoyed all the venues: from school programs, bands and choirs to community shows and concerts. No matter the theme, she loved to attend.
She is survived by her husband; children: Kim (David) LeMmon, Scott (Anna) Hansen, Pam (Joe) Lee, Chad (Dianna) Hansen, Donny (Jade) Hansen, Casey (Michelle) Hansen, Janis (Travis) Jensen, Corey (Kim) Hansen, Brady Hansen; 36 grand children and 27 great-grandchildren, with more on the way; siblings: Carol Hyatt, Marilyn Babcock, Barbara (Paul) Burgess, Larry (Kim) Jones, Stan (Tish) Jones.
She is preceded in death by her son, Christopher Kendal; parents; and grandson, Clint Hunting; sister, Helen (Rob) Rowley; brother-in-law, Gene Hyatt.
