Scott M Utley
Venice, Utah
Scott Morrell Utley, 89, passed away March 14, 2018 at his home in Venice. He was born September 19, 1928 in Ogden, Utah to Denzil Gay and Nora Opal Ross Utley. He married Cleo Dawn Cowley, January 18, 1946 in the Manti Utah Temple. They made their home in Venice, raised their family and had just celebrated their 72nd anniversary before she preceded him in death February 2, 2018.
Scott grew up in Sevier and Joseph, Utah. Being in that part of Sevier County, he grew to love hunting, fishing and riding horses and has enjoyed sharing all of these activities with his family over the years.
Scott is a man of great character, his handshake was his "word." He was a "tell it like it is" kind of a guy - honest in all his dealings. He had an un-wavering love and dedication for his wife and family. He worked hard and taught his family the same values.
He worked with Georgia Pacific for over 40 years and retired as head mechanic, but his true passion was farming and ranching. He was known for the award-winning quarter horses that he bred and raced. He was a member of the Quarter Horse Association and the Sevier County Chapter of the Back Country Horsemen.
He is survived by his children: Linda (Marty) Cowburn, Orem; Colleen (Ted) Madden, Venice; Duane (Vickie) Utley, Richfield; and Dan (Tricia) Utley, Santa Clara; 34 granddchildren; 84 great-grandchildren; 17 great-great-grandchildren; siblings: Gleed Utley, Centerfield; Larry (Marilyn) Utley, Henderson, NV; brother-in-law: Chanley Bredsguard. Preceded in death by his parents; wife; brother, Dwayne Utley; sister, Virginia Bredsguard; sister-in-law, Evelyn Utley; grandson, David Rioja.
