Our beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and brother, Samuel Devern Mecham, 88, passed away March 14, 2011 at his home in Monroe. He was born March 24, 1922, in Widtsoe, Utah, to Samuel Littlefield and Edna Talbot Meacham. He married Ella Marie Winget, March 31, 1951, in Monroe. The marriage was later solemnized in the Manti LDS Temple.

Dad joined the United States Navy and served his country during World War II. Dad loved to read, do crossword puzzles and being in the outdoors. He enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren.

Devern is survived by his wife, Ella Marie, Monroe; children: Linda (Gene) Fordham, Sigurd; Susan (James) Stevens, Brigham City; Ronald Mecham, Monroe; Teena (Wayne) Jewkes, Monroe; Shauna (Gary) Knight, Richfield; Bill (Colette) Mecham, Monroe; Jackie (Bob) Simmons, Glenwood; Janet (Ronny) Lee, Hightstown, NJ; Russell (Lynn) Mecham, Rangely, CO; 40 grandchildren and 55 great-grandchildren; sisters: Gaye (Rulon) Despain, Venice; Larna Soderquist, Salt Lake City; Karen (Lou) Drager, Littleton, CO; sisters-in-law, Reta Meacham and Shirley Meacham.

He was preceded in death by his parents; grandson, Brian Blake; brothers: LaVor, Golden, Layne and Jack.

Funeral services will be Friday, March 18, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. in the Monroe 2 nd LDS Ward Chapel, 140 South Main. Friends may call Thursday from 6-8 p.m. at the Magleby Mortuary, 50 South 100 West, in Richfield, and Friday at the ward chapel in Monroe from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Interment will be in the Monroe City Cemetery with military rites accorded by the Monroe American Legion Post #37 and the Utah Honor Guard. Funeral directors, Magleby Mortuary, Richfield, Salina and Manti.

Dad was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in various callings throughout his life. Dad was a farmer for many years after which he worked for Stratton’s, Southern Utah Furniture and Georgia-Pacific until his retirement.
