Sally Stephens
Monroe, Utah
Our mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Sally Joyce Thomas Stephens, passed away peacefully on August 10, 2023, after a short battle with cancer. She had just celebrated her 91st birthday! Sally was born August 4, 1932, in Provo, to parents Harlan Samuel Thomas and Erma Fern Sylvester. She had one brother, Richard H. Thomas, who she considered to be her best friend.
Sally enjoyed a full, healthy, active life. Her dream growing up was to be a mom. As a young girl, she would ride her bike down a couple of blocks from home and park near the maternity hospital just to hear the babies cry. Her dream came true. Sally married Dale Stephens on August 27, 1955, they were later sealed in the Mesa Temple, and she enjoyed being the mom of 6 children and two stepchildren for the next 69 years. She was a student at BYU, first attending kindergarten there and later studying organic chemistry, and even assisted in teaching a few classes. She loved gardening and canning, making bread, and playing the piano. She trained dogs in obedience, spoiled her chickens, learned to rock climb, joined several card-making clubs, and was a proud member of the Daughters of Utah Pioneers. She was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served a mission in Missouri in her youth. She held a variety of callings, enjoying her ministering assignments the most.
Sally is survived by her children: Jerry Stephens, Julie (Travis) Fuller, Thomas (Cindy) Stephens, Jenny (Gary) Renfrow, Daniel Stephens, and Amy Byers; stepchildren: Roger (Giuliana) Stephens, and Connie Hood; 10 grandchildren: Todd, Troy, Kevin, Christopher, Sarah, Kimberly, Scott, Eric, Craig, Avery; 4 great-grandchildren: Nadine, Teagan, Skyler, Killian; and many wonderful step grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband Dale; parents; brother; and many in-laws and maybe even some out-laws.
