Ruth Hansen
Richfield, Utah
Ruth Elnorah Grover Hansen, 93, loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend passed away September 25, 2012 in Monroe, Utah. Ruth was born January 28, 1919 in Archer, Idaho, to John and Elnorah Homer Grover. She grew up in Archer, south of Rexburg, Idaho, and attended schools in Archer and Rexburg. She excelled in spelling, typing and editing; and helped with several local publications throughout her life. She married Afton Elwin Hansen on September 6, 1938 in Rexburg, Idaho. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple. They lived the first year of married life in Goshen, Idaho, after which they bought farmland in Archer and raised their family there. Afton and Ruth were well-respected and successful in their farming operations. Afton preceded her in death November 19, 1989.
Prior to Afton’s death in 1989, they purchased a home in Richfield, Utah to live close to their daughter, J’Lee. For several years Ruth continued to spend the summers at her home in Idaho, but eventually sold that farm and resided in Richfield for the last years of her life. Ruth was an excellent cook, seamstress, quilter and gardener. She enjoyed family, friends and neighbors. She served faithfully in her church callings and especially enjoyed serving others. Her good health and strong work ethic kept her busy, even during the 23 years that she spent without Afton.
Ruth is survived by her children: Dale (Ruth), Lehi, Utah; Leon, Nampa, Idaho; Neil (Cathy), Saratoga Springs, Utah; and J’Lee (Lee) Bennett, Richfield, Utah; 13 grandchildren and 32 great-grandchildren; sister, Blanch Kirkham, Archer; brother, Loren (Leona) Grover, Idaho Falls; sister-in-law, LuDean Grover, Archer, Idaho/Overton, NV.
