We are saddened by the passing of our beloved husband, father and grandfather, Russell Odell Hawks, 82, on Monday, March 31, 2014 in Provo, Utah following heart surgery.
Russ was born August 2, 1931 in Holbrook, Idaho to Ellis Franklin and AnnaLenna Johnson Hawks. The family later moved to Wendell, Idaho where he spent his childhood and high school years. He filled a mission to Sweden and later attended BYU where he met his sweetheart of 60 years, Sharon Harrison. They were married in the Logan Temple, April 23, 1954. He served in the Army in 1954 during the Korean Conflict.
Russ farmed in Central, Idaho before continuing his education and then teaching Vocational Agriculture. He and his wife brought the Richfield Taco Time to Richfield in 1975 and he later taught in South Sevier and Richfield High School. He also tutored at the Indian Dorm during these years and always enjoyed the youth in these capacities.
Russ and his wife were active participants in the Richfield Lions Club for many years. He had a love for horses and was involved with them his entire life. He formed many friendships through his love for horses. He enjoyed good cowboy poetry.
Russ has served in many callings in his faith, including a Manti Temple ordinance worker with his wife. He lived his life with quiet integrity both privately and publicly.
He is survived by his wife, Sharon. Together they raised five children: Robert Lynn (Carolyn) Hawks, Julia Dawn (Doug) Frederickson, Dal James (Margaret) Hawks, Bonnie Jean (Steve) Church, Larisa Jo (Wayne) Leavitt; 21 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren with four on the way; sisters: Margie Carter, Wendell, ID; and Betty Stilwell, Klammath Falls, OR.
Preceded in death by his parents; twin sons, Clayton and Curtis; five siblings.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 5, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. in the Richfield East Stake Center, 800 North 500 East. Friends may call Friday from 6-8 p.m. in the Magleby Mortuary, 50 South 100 West, Richfield and Saturday at the stake center from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Military Rites will be provided by the V.F.W. Sevier Post #5050 and the Utah Honor Guard.
Burial will be on Monday, April 7, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. in the Central Cemetery near Grace, Idaho.
