Dad’s friend, Carlos Guerrero, wrote a poem that describes our father so well:
Royal Erwin Fraser
I was lookin’ for a friend, preferring an old timer.
Not knowin’ where to look, or if I’d find a shiner.
I did not know the day would come, I’d find a trailblazer.
He was a gooder one he was, named Royal Erwin Fraser.
He’d been a wandering workhorse, doin’ this and that he’d say;
Worked in the field and shop, he varied the work in his day.
He learned to fix and tinker, he learned to save a dime.
And so he collected stuff at home, in case he had the time.
He had a collection on his walls, of his western life of joy
Hats and clothes and gear, the life of the cowboy.
Guns and ammo he did have, and some odd ones to be sure;
And a-hunting deer or elk, he would be shootin’ true.
Antique cars and muscle cars, to these he was truly loyal,
And anything with a motor, and tools and grease and oil.
But about the hills and canyons, was what he loved to do;
To hunt and fish and camp, and drive his old truck, too.
I met my friend too late in life, but I am glad to say,
I wish I’d known him long ago, 20 years and a day.
I know he was a shiner, perhaps, you know, a hell-raiser
He was a gooder one he was, name of Royal Erwin Fraser.
