Ross Nordell
Manti, Utah
On the beautiful day of June 19, 2019, the Nordell family, Sanpete County and the world lost a father, a grandpa, a friend, a hero and a legend when Ross A. Nordell walked outside to hear Jesus and his beautiful bride Virginia call him home. He passed away at his home in Manti.
Ross was born May 30, 1930 to Alvin and Delores Swasey Nordell in Ferron Utah. He joined the US Army in 1945 at the age of 15 and served during World War II until 1947. He married his childhood friend and love of his life, Virginia A. Fredricksen on January 29, 1949 in Castle Dale, Utah. Together they had two sons, Larry and Lyle. Virginia preceded him in death October 24, 2017. He missed her dearly and looked forward to the day that they would once again be "Side by Side".
Ross served as a deputy sheriff with Sanpete County for 12 years while also serving with the Sanpete County Search and Rescue. He is known for loving his family, his country, our military, his poetry and love of Jesus. His walking sticks sit in the homes of all those he loved. He loved the outdoors and was riding his four wheeler up to the day he left us. His pride was his two son’s and their wives whom he called daughters.
He leaves his legacy behind to his two sons and daughters: Larry and Carolyn Nordell, Manti; Lyle and Arlene Nordell, Hurricane; grandchildren: William Nordell, Germany; Joette (Mark) Thompson, Sandy; Cody (Bonnie) Nordell, Manti; Brandon (Heather) Nordell, Texas; Ryan Nordell, Hurricane; Mickey (Jamie) Nordell, Payson; 25 great-grandchildren and 10 great-great-grandchildren; his sister-in-law, who visited him daily, Judy (Frank) Hallman, Manti; and many friends. Ross will be missed dearly by all who knew and loved him.
