On September 21, 2014, our hero, "Big R", Ronald Emmett Wilson, 78, fought his last fight; his passing took place in Murray, Utah with his family around him. He was born October 25, 1935 in Helper to Richard Emmett "Dick" and Mary Passic Wilson.
Ron grew up in Kenilworth, Utah with his younger brother, Gary, where he made life long friends. He attended school in Carbon County where he excelled in baseball, football and basket ball. The last time Carbon High took state in football, he was on the team.
After graduating from Carbon High, he joined the US Air Force, where he served for four years, during his tour of duty, he also played on the Air Force baseball team. While on the team, they won the Worldwide Military Baseball Championship.
While serving in Okinawa, he served with the Air Patrol-receiving several promotions and accommodations. When he returned home from military service, he met and married the love of his life, Hope Colby, October 10, 1959 in Wellington, UT.
Ron began his 27 year career with the Utah Highway Patrol as a dispatcher, followed by assignment as a trooper and finishing up as a Sergeant.
He is survived by his wife of Richfield; daughters, Keelie (Pat K.) Payne of Monroe, Leslie (Harold "Haddy") Harrison of Salina; 3 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; brother, Gary (Jolene) Wilson of Price. He is preceded in death by his parents; grandson, Tyler Reardon.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, September 26, 2014 at 12:00 Noon in the Richfield 2 nd LDS Ward Chapel, 700 West 200 South. Friends may call at the Magleby Mortuary on Thursday evening from 6 to 8 or at the ward chapel on Friday from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Burial will be in the Richfield City Cemetery where military honors will be offered by the Utah Highway Patrol and Hill Air Force Base Honor Guards.
