Ronald Harris
Mayfield, Utah
Ronald J Harris, age 86, of Mayfield, passed away peacefully at his home on January 26, 2023, after a long illness. Ronald was born on August 3, 1936, in Minersville, to Silas Earl and Nettie Moyes Harris. His father passed away unexpectedly when Ron was only three years old. He lived in Minersville until he was about 10, then they moved to Beaver where his mom worked to support her family. His mother remarried and they moved to Bountiful where Ron attended and graduated from Davis High School and worked at a gas station.
He met his sweetheart, Irene Turner, at the local bowling alley. They were married on April 6, 1956, in Bountiful and together they raised four wonderful children. The marriage was solemnized on April 5, 2002 in the Manti Temple for time and all eternity.
Ron worked for Amoco as a diesel mechanic for 40+ years— retiring in 1996. During his career he also worked for Utah Sand and Gravel, owned his own combine and did custom cutting for the farmers and collected firewood for extra income.
He loved his family, the outdoors: fishing, hunting, camping and four-wheeling. He loved watching western movies and the news. He taught his children car maintenance, how to shoot, how to fish and how to fix almost anything.
After retirement, Ron and Irene moved to Mayfield to live in the new house that they built, moving ‘up on the hill’ in 1996.
As a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Ron had a strong testimony of the Savior Jesus Christ and of the Gospel. He held several church callings throughout the years: executive secretary, scout leader, Primary teacher and served with Irene at the Family History Center in the Central Utah Correctional Facility.
He was very active in the local community. He was a member of the Lions Club for 24 years and Woodturners for 15 years. He enjoyed working with his hands and helping others.
He is survived by his wife Irene; children: Carol Ann (Dean) Madsen, Catherine (Todd) Farnsworth, Ronald Keith (Kathy) Harris, and Michele (David) Callister. He has 16 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren; brother-in-law Val Turner.
Preceded in death by his parents; older brother, Charles Earl “Bud” (Marianna) Harris.
