Roger McArthur

Manti, UT

Roger Bryan McArthur, beloved Son, Brother, Husband and Father passed away January 2, 2015 in Provo, Ut.  Roger was born March 8, 1946 in Richfield, Ut. to Bryan R. and LeOra D. Peterson McArthur. Roger married Linda K. Brotherson on May 28, 1971; they were the parents to 4 fantastic children.

Roger served in the 20 th Engineer Brigade of the U.S. Army from May 1966 to May 1968. Roger was proud to serve his country in Vietnam and even more proud that he was able to spend his service time building roads, schools, hospitals and other needed infrastructure. After his time in Vietnam Roger joined the Utah National Guard serving in the 1 st Battalion 140 th Field Artillery, he was also a long time member of the Manti Chapter of the American Legion. Roger was very patriotic and proud to have followed in the footsteps of his father by serving in his country’s military.

As a child Roger was active in the Boy Scouts of America and was later blessed to be involved with his two sons when they were boy scouts. Not to leave anyone out, he also volunteered his time and talents to his two daughters while they were involved in 4H and the Girl Scouts. Roger was an avid outdoorsman and seemed to never pass up an opportunity to spend time outdoors with friends and family. One of his favorite outdoor activities was Dutch oven cooking and he became quite good at it. Roger won several ribbons cooking at the Sanpete County Fair and teaming with his brother Lynn won second place overall at the Utah State Fair.

Roger had a serious heart attack January 2, 1994. Due to extensive damage to his heart Roger required a heart transplant. Roger was given the “Gift of Life” in the form of that heart transplant on June 5, 1996. After the transplant the Doctor’s goal was to give Roger 10 more years of life, he nearly doubled that. Always mindful of the donor and their sacrifice Roger enjoyed each and every day he could spend with his family and friends.  He went on to have 12 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild after his transplant. Roger and his family will forever be grateful of the generosity that allowed this to happen.

Roger is survived by his wife, Linda, Children: William (Elizabeth), Shirley, Kristy (Michael Tilton), Kevin (Rachel). 12 Grandchildren and 1 Great grandson. Siblings: Guy (Marilyn), Kay (Dale Henningson), LeAnna (Jack Johansen), Patsy (Steve Nielson), Verla (David Smyth), Leslie (Kelly Roberts). Preceded in death by his parents Bryan and LeOra and two brothers Lynn and Kelly.
