Rodney "Rod" Ned Conder, 76, passed away peacefully January 19, 2020 in Hesperia, California. He was born September 12, 1943 in Richfield, Utah to Ned M. and Aleath J. Mortensen Conder. Rod moved with his family to California in 1952, but always kept his ties to the Central Valley, even maintaining a second home in Monroe for family vacations, hunting/fishing trips and getaways.

In 1965, Rod married Lynda M. Fox of Circleville, Utah in the St. George Utah LDS Temple; they divorced in 1986. Rod married Mary Elaine Elston; they divorced in 1990 and Rod remarried Lynda, later that same year.

Rod was a deputy sheriff for the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department for 20 years, retiring as a sergeant in 1988. He then worked for Barstow Unified School District for another 10 years as a janitorial/maintenance supervisor.

Rod was a devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and he loved to serve others. He served a two-year LDS mission in Edinburgh Scotland. He was also active in the Boy Scouts of America, where he served as a Scout leader, a district chairman for the Mojave District, a merit badge counselor, and District Eagle Board chairman. He also received the prestigious Scouting "Silver Beaver" award.

Rod loved the outdoors, he enjoyed camping, hunting, shooting, fishing and driving the mountains and hills of the areas where he lived. He also enjoyed working with the many tools and toys he accumulated over the years, he loved fixing things and being a handyman.

Rod is survived by his loving wife, Lynda; daughters Cheri (George) Echols, Connie (Rob) Chaffee, and Teri (Ed) Conder. His pride and joy were his grandchildren: Benjamin Echols, Cassidy (Wesley) Brady, Jenna Chaffee, Tyler Chaffee, and Tazlynn Sauer. Time with his grandchildren was his favorite pastime!!

He was preceded in death by his parents; older sister, Saundra Lee Pohl and a younger brother, David Lane.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 25, 2020, at 11:00 a.m. in the Barstow LDS Ward Chapel, 2571 Barstow Road, Barstow, CA., where friends may call from 9:30 - 10:30 a.m. Graveside services will be held Saturday, February 1, 2020 at 1:00 p.m. in the Monroe City Cemetery, Monroe, Utah.
