Robert Capt

Monroe, Utah

Robert Charles Capt, devoted husband, father, brother, grandfather and great grandfather, passed away peacefully with family by his side on September 8, 2020 in Pleasant Grove at the age of 84. Robert was born on April 19, 1936 in New London, Wisconsin. He is the eldest son of Eugene Raymond Capt and Betty Jane Conti. He is the second oldest of a blended family which includes seven sisters and one brother.

Originally, Robert was raised in Baldwin Park, California and attended Baldwin Park High School. He was a member of the Baldwin Park Car Club. Robert enjoyed his participation as an amateur drag racer with his brother Thayer Thomas Capt.

Robert joined the United States Coast Guard during the Korean conflict and served our country with honors for a duration of four years aboard the endurance cutter USCGC Taney.

While working as a carpenter in the San Gabriel Valley, their mutual friends, William "Bill" and Elaine Devey arranged a blind date for Bob with Sharon Quist in October 1959. Together, they enjoyed their friends and beautiful drives along Pacific Coast Highway. Robert and Sharon were married in a civil ceremony on May 21, 1960 in West Covina, CA which was later solemnized in the Los Angeles Temple.

Robert was a devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints from the date of his baptism and was extremely proud of his conversion to the LDS Church. He loved serving as a stake emergency preparedness representative, Sunday School president, Boy Scout leader, and many other callings in Monroe Utah Stake for nearly 40 years. Robert and Sharon were always found helping others within the Sevier County communities.

During his later years, Robert attended secondary technical courses as a welder, cabinet designer, auto body paint and repair and was a Ham Radio Operator in Sevier County, Utah for Emergency Preparedness.

Robert owned and operated a licensed construction company for over 40 years. He was a project manager in the Los Angeles area directing multi-family and commercial projects during the 80’s, and work on new home, remodel and restoration project in the Monroe area until his retirement in November of 2019.

Robert loved spending time with his family by four-wheeling in the mountains, hunting, fishing and collecting classic cars. He always enjoyed participating in the July 24th Pioneer Parade with family and sharing his classic 66 Cadillac convertible.

The family would like to express their deepest gratitude to his little Green Valley (Monroe) family and immediate family who helped care for he and his wife Sharon. This experience was invaluable in making his last years meaningful and peaceful.
