Robert Grant Bawden, 88, of Hanna, Utah, passed away October 16, 2015 in Murray, Utah. He was born May 14, 1927 in Granger to Richard Grant and Ivy Inkley Bawden, their third child.

Robert attended school in Monroe from first to ninth grades, then attended Cyprus High School. In April of 1945, he joined the U.S. Merchant Marines, where he served until March of 1947.

He worked at the Tooele Army Depot, the Kennecott Refinery until their closure in 1985 and then worked for the LDS Church until his retirement in 1992. He was a member of the LDS Church and devoted his life to service in the Church.

Robert married Faye Smith, September 21, 1949 in the Salt Lake Temple, she preceded him in death February 10, 2003. They are the parents of six children: June (Michael) Johnson, Debra (Brad) Burton, Gayla (Robert) Davis, Charles (Bernice) Bawden, Russell (Shelley) Bawden and Melissa (Robert) Bryan.

In 1994 Robert and Faye moved to Hanna, where he farmed and had a large garden. He loved to share produce with friends and neighbors and enjoyed cutting and hauling hay.

He married Catherine Ann Ogden Cheshire, September 6, 2003 in the Manti Temple.

Survivors include his loving wife, Cathy; his and Faye’s children; Cathy’s children and grandchildren; 24 grandchildren and 56 great-grandchildren; siblings: Sterling Bawden, Virginia Latimer, Margaret Payne.

Also preceded in death by: parents and brother, Howard Bawden.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, October 23, 2015 at 11:30 a.m in Tabiona LDS Ward Chapel in Tabiona, Utah. Viewings will be on Thursday eveing from 6 to 8 in West Valley City at the Granger West 4 th LDS Ward building located at 3305 South 3960 West and on Friday at the ward chapel in Tabiona from 9:30 to 11:00. Burial, with military honors, will take place Friday afternoon at 4:30 in the Valley View Memorial Park, 4335 West 4100 South in West Valley City.

The family suggests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the LDS Missionary Fund.
