Richard A Dastrup

December 15, 1943 — August 13, 2011

Our beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, son-in-law and friend, Richard A Dastrup, age 67, passed quietly from this earthly existence returning unto his Heavenly Father on Saturday, August 13, 2011 at home in Washington City, Utah. He fought a valiant fight and a courageous battle against a rare cancer tumor for several years. He was a great example to all who knew him.

Richard was born of goodly parents, Arnel T. and Ethel Anderson Dastrup, on December 15, 1943 in Richfield. He married his high school sweetheart and dearest friend, Shauna Oldroyd, June 4, 1965 in the Manti Temple.

Richard learned how to work as a young boy as he helped his father and grandfather run the farm in Sigurd and cattle ranch in Grass Valley. He raised Herford Steers which he showed at the Southern Utah Jr. Livestock Show in 1957 in Richfield taking Grand Champion with one steer and 1 st Place with the other steer. During high school Richard was active in the FFA organization and was elected Senior Class President.

Richard graduated from high school in 1962. He attended one semester of college at Brigham Young University before leaving on his mission in February of 1963 serving in the Eastern States Mission. While on his mission he was privileged to participate in the World’s Fair held in New York, the Hill Cumorah Pageant in Palmyra and was called to be a Mission Assistant to President West at the mission home in New York City.

Upon returning home he returned to BYU where he graduated in 1969 with a degree in Business Management. In 1968 Rich and Shauna started their own business in the floor covering industry in Utah Valley. In 1985 he was presented with the "Business Man of the Year" Award by the Provo Sertoma Club. He was active with the Utah Valley Home Builders Association plus many other floor covering associations. They resided in Orem for 24 years where they raised their family. In 1990, they relocated to St. George where they started a marketing and consulting business. In 2005 they moved into the Washington City area, where they reside today.

Richard was especially proud of his family. He enjoyed spending quality time with them at their summer retreat at Quakie Haven in Fishlake. He enjoyed hunting (especially archery), fishing, boating (favorite place was Lake Powell), ATV trips, and 4 wheeling (he loved his jeeps). Richard and Shauna enjoyed traveling in their motor home and made many trips throughout the western and mid western states, enjoying the beauty of our great country. They especially loved to go to Moab where they enjoyed the peaceful beauty available there and of course, they got to do some 4 wheeling.

Richard served in various positions in the LDS Church, most recently he and Shauna participating as temple patrons which they dearly love.

He is survived by his wife, Shauna; and children: Rachelle (John) Ellis, Weston (Wendy) Dastrup, Trina (Jeff) Glines, and Natausha Wright; 15 grandchildren and 1 great-grandson. He is also survived by his brother, Merrill R. (Linda) Dastrup. He was dearly loved by all and will be greatly missed.

Richard was preceded in death by his parents Arnel and Ethel Dastrup and father-in-law Harve Oldroyd whom he enjoyed a special bond and friendship with.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, August 20, 2011 at 1:00 p.m. in the Northbridge Chapel, Silver Stone Ward, 1080 W Arlington St., Washington, Utah, where friends may call for viewing and celebrating his life with the family from 11 am to 12:30 pm. Burial will be held at the Tonaquint Cemetery, 1777 S. Dixie Drive, in St. George. Funeral Directors: Magleby Mortuary, Richfield, Utah.
