Rex Newel Olsen

Our beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle and friend, Rex Newel Olsen, 82, passed away at his home in Axtell, October 11, 2013. He was born in Axtell January 1, 1931 to Newel Hans and Alphilda LeoCordia Anderson Olsen. He married LaPreal Gates, May 20 1949 in the Manti Temple.

Rex was a dairyman and farmer. The loves in his life were his family and his horses. He also loved the land and hunting.

He was an active member of the LDS Church serving faithfully in his callings.

Rex is survived by his wife of 64 years, and his four children, Connie (Jim) Keisel of Axtell, Dennis (Colleen) Olsen of Salt Lake City, Carrie (Leslie) Edwards of Gunnison, Gayle (Ron) Ball of Gunnison; 14 grandchildren; 43 great-grandchildren; brother, Phil (Judy) Olsen of Hurricane; sisters, Kathryn Anderson of LaMirada, CA, Fawn (Jerry) Anderson of Leeds.

He is preceded in death by his parents; sister, Jean Neilson; brother, Dan Olsen; granddaughter, Mindee Lee Olsen, two great-grandchildren, Kacee Lee Ziegler, Michael Stevenson.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, October 16, 2013 at 12:00 Noon in the Axtell LDS Ward Chapel. Friends may call at the ward chapel on Tuesday evening from 6 to 8 or on Wednesday morning from 10:00 to 11:30. Burial will be in the Gunnison City Cemetery.
